Join us in another exciting virtual whisky tasting. This time round, we will be going through the Gordon and Macphail range of whiskies, and thanks to the help of  distributor of Gordon and Macphail in Australia, Alba Whisky, we are very honoured and fortunate to have Richard Urquhart (from the Gordon & Macphail Founding Family) & Neil Farquhar (International Sales Executive) to be presenting the whiskies to us! They will be talking us through the history of Gordon and Macphail (one of Scotland's oldest bottlers - since 1895) and how they became the iconic brand they are today.

Gordon and Macphail celebrates their 125th Anniversary this year! They started in 1895, when James Gordon and John Alexander Macphail established a grocery and wine merchant business in South Street, Elgin. Within a year of establishment, John Urquhart joins the company. Urquhart became a senior business partner in 1915 and began to develop the firm's whisky brokering business, and bottling single malts under licence for several famous distilleries, including The Glenlivet. Through four generations, Gordon and Macphail has matched spirit from over 100 distilleries to their own casks with the philosophy of "The wood makes the whisky"; and today they have one of the most extensive stock holdings in the industry.

It was always the ambition of John Urquhart and the subsequent generations of the Urquhart family to own and manage its own distillery. This dream came true in 1993 when they purchased Benromach in Forres from United Distillers.

Today, Gordon and Macphail bottles whiskies across several ranges, with the most well-known being the Connoiseur's Choice labels.Other labels include The Private Collection, Book of Kells Series, Cask Strength, Rare Old, The Macphail's Collection, and the most exclusive of them all, the Generations label. Gordon and Mapchail has also bottled the oldest whiskies in the world under the Generations label, a 70yo Mortlach (bottled in 2010), 70yo Glenlivet (bottled in 2011), and followed by a 75yo Mortlach (bottled in 2015).
