The original Glengyle Distillery was built by William Mitchell in 1872 and is located in Campbeltown, South-West of Scotland, in the Kintyre Peninsula. In its hayday, Campbeltown boasted at least 34 whisky distilleries, but yet by the mid 1930's only 2 distilleries, Springbank and Glen Scotia, managed to survive. The reason as to why this massive closure of distilleries happened, has never been fully answered, but overproduction, resulting in the decline in quality; post-war economic depression; and also Prohibition and the Great Depression, all had a part to play.

75 years later, the third Campbeltown distillery, Glengyle, was re-opened by the owners of Springbank. And in 2004 the first distillation takes place at Glengyle, also done by the same production team as Springbank. The whiskies produced at Glengyle is sold under the name Kilkerran. A 3 years old Kilkerran was released in 2007, and every year from 2009 onwards, a Kilkerran "Work in Progress" was released. As the name suggests, it was a fun and interesting way for consumers and fans to analyse the progress of the liquid as they mature; leading up to the much anticipated Kilkerran 12yo that was released in 2016.

In this tasting, The Elysian Whisky Bar and Alba Whisky (the official importer's of Kilkerran) are proud to present to you a tasting of some of the releases that Kilkerran has done in the last few years. The lineup will be:
1) Kilkerran 12yo, 46%
2) Kilkerran 16yo, 46% - Released in 2020
3) Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 3, 59.7% - Released in 2020
4) Kilkerran Heavily Peated Batch 4, 58.6% - 2021 Release
5) Kilkerran 8yo Cask Strength Sherry Casks, 56.9% - 2021 Release
